The 'racist' excuse is a lazy copout argument. Mistakes happen under stressful situations. Our brains sometimes don't respond well under pressure. It can happen to anyone, under the right circumstances. We, at home, watch the body cam footage while chilling on our couch looking at our phone. It's a completely different experience for the police officers that are dealing with the actual crisis. The whole event lasted for 10 seconds. Ten seconds isn't a long time, especially in an emergency. It's impossible for police to train under real-world conditions. Tiger Woods accidentally slammed the gas instead of the brakes during his tragic car accident. That happens quite often, even with very experienced drivers. Daunte Wright made many bad choices that led to his death. He's responsible for HIMSELF. He didn't comply with officer commands, resisted arrest, fought police, tried to escape in a car and endangered many people's lives. He was a criminal. The police officers thought everything was going fine with the arrest... until Daunte caught them off-guard, flipped the script and all chaos ensued. Why did he panic? Why was there a warrant for his arrest? Daunte Wright had been charged with first degree aggravated robbery in December 2019. He choked and robbed a woman at gunpoint, stole all her rent money. He had a warrant out for his arrest because he didn't attend his court hearing for two misdemeanor charges, one for possession of a gun without a permit and the other for fleeing from police (last June). He's responsible for his irresponsible and selfish behavior. A car is a 2,000 pound weapon. He could've hurt many people. The police could've blown him to God's Kingdom and it wouldn't be wrong (for that crazy situation). Daunte Wright played real-world Theft Auto and lost. Did you think he was an innocent victim? *I'm tired of people defending selfish, reckless and stupid criminals.* Why didn't Daunte Wright peacefully comply and submit himself to the justice system and due process? Oh wait, he was a dangerous criminal who was desperate to escape.🤗

@DiceMofo 26 years she was on the police force and she couldn’t tell the difference between a Tayser and a gun. That and she was training somebody that day. You people have no idea what it’s like to be black so you cannot have an opinion on black issues. Maybe we would stop trying to run from the police if the police weren’t killing us. We’re already minorities and so many of us are dying this year last year and every year before that. Y’all are hell-bent on killing us. @Tyson B Hundreds of people? In 2020, in the U.S., the police killed 457 white people, 241 black people, and 169 hispanic people. Do you think all those black people were unfairly killed by pOliCe BrUtALiTy? There were almost twice more white people than black people killed by police. Was that also unjust? Nobody is marching and rioting for those lives. It's naive to claim that there's an epidemic of police brutality when there's no data to support it. The BLM argument is full of BS. Daunte Wright made many bad choices that led to his death. He's responsible for HIMSELF. He didn't comply with officer commands, resisted arrest, fought police, tried to escape in a car and endangered many people's lives. He was a criminal. @liyahxx There isn't an epidemic of police brutality on African-Americans. In 2020, in the U.S., the police killed 457 white people, 241 black people, and 169 hispanic people. Have you looked at the statistics for black-on-black homicides? Now that's a real epidemic. But, to BLM, those black lives don't matter.

@All things Kiara Did you think police officers were perfect? You can have 26 years of experience and still make a mistake. Training reduces the chances for mistakes, not eliminate them. Daunte Wright was a dumb criminal who maximized his chances for a negative outcome. He made a ton of dumb mistakes. But, hey, he's criminal. He doesn't have the right to do whatever it takes to escape. If he was a better person, then none of this would've happened. We live in a crazy world. Why does the criminal get the benefit of the doubt? Daunte choked and robbed a woman. He threatened to kill her with a gun. He robbed her of all her rent money. Do you think he wasn't dangerous? Of course. He violated his probation by being caught with an illegal handgun, then he ran from police. Whoa! Then he skipped out on his court case, which led to a warrant. Yikes! He had a violent past and a history of fleeing police and the justice system. He was dangerous, because he was cornered. That explains why he acted like a nut job and fought against arrest. He didn't want things to end peacefully. He got served his karma.

It's completely different for the officers that had to deal with the crisis. Daunte Wright made many bad choices, created chaos and confusion and it cost him his life. Step 1. Don't resist police. Step 2. Don't fight police. Step 3. Be civil and polite. Step 4. Peacefully submit yourself to justice and due process. Daunte failed every step. He was an idiot.

@Sunny Sied Do you think a trained officer of 26 years should know how to recognize and use a deadly weapon vs a taser? What is the indicator this young man was such a "violent, dangerous, and desperate criminal?" I listened to the parents and viewed the video. I'm not involved but it sounds like he was a bit hapless and a total momma's boy. Not some violent criminal. He called his mother when he was pulled over 😂. He wasn't doing anything but trying to get away. He wasn't in the right but he didn't need to die. I certainly do expect an officer with her experience to "be busy" knowing what the F'k she is doing while holding a deadly weapon.

@Sunny Sied Rarely is a cop up against a criminal shooting at him, also, it only takes part of a second to rapid through 3 rubber bullets. What I'm more concerned about is the hasty killing or accidental killing of an unarmed person. Cops have Training, Tasers, Vests, Partners, Clubs, Automatic Rifles, Shotguns, Batons, 3 rubber bullets wouldn't stop a cop from defending himself against a shooter, but WOULD potentially stop him from killing an innocent.

Do you think she's busy looking at the gun during a life-and-death situation when a violent, dangerous and desperate criminal is trying to escape in a vehicle (a 2,000 pound weapon)? Nope. The officer is focused on the criminal, the car, other officers and the passenger. The entire event lasted only 10 seconds. Ten. Seconds. With a dangerous criminal desperately trying to flee in a car. Mistakes happen. If you were in 100 different, high stress, surprise, life-and-death situations, then you're going to make some mistakes. Daunte Wright surprised police officers and suddenly didn't comply with instructions, resisted arrest, fought police, tried to escape in a vehicle and endangered many people's lives (a car is a dangerous weapon in the hands of a desperate criminal). The entire incident was very quick and chaotic. The police officer is primarily focused on the rapidly unfolding crisis, not their weapon. If that scenario was ran 100 different times with the police officer, then I can guarantee some mistakes would be made.

You don't know wtf is in that cops mind when you resist arrest. Taking accountability for one's action is the key but that goes BOTH WAYS! But damn this kid would be alive right now if he just went to deal with his warrant, he probably would have been bailed out in couple hours.. anyone know what the warrant was for? This is why you don't defund police you train them better.. when making arrest cop should brought suspect behind car and shut his door then tell him he under arrest.. maybe talk alittle more like tell him don't worry u will be out in an hour on a ROR

How hard is it to just not break away while being arrested, to not get in the car & drive off as if real life is just a game of Grand Theft Auto...This kid & the girl who was shot mid knife thrust, these are both prime examples of bad parenting getting your child killed. But I highly doubt they'll take that personal responsibility. 🙄 I'm sick of 2021 America...

Despite the fact that I have been arrested several times (deserved each one) I have never been tased or shot by police. It is Not because I am not black. Plenty of folks (every color) get shot and tased by police. And you ask how I can perform this miracle? I avoid it Because I Never argue with the police much less physically fight with police or pull a gun on police or try to take their guns to shoot them or resist arrest by pushing the police off me and then jumping into my car and speeding off in my car thereby endangering the police, myself and anyone else nearby. That said: that LEO needs to be fired (certainly) and perhaps prosecuted for negligent homicide (no way that was murder).

Just found out about this a weekish after when my college's president sent out an email regarding this completely unrelated-to-education incident. I find it sad yes, but looking through the video that doesn't look tainted or tampered with to be specifically biased. All I can say is that, to be frank, it's a good fricken lesson to people to learn the blatantly obvious that you "Don't resist arrest". I'm not justifying her choice of action, however, if you're resisting arrest, you're putting yourself more in trouble with the law enforcement. I don't know anything about the officer, I feel the comment section has done a little research further themselves and explained she's been on the force for a couple decades, and I agree it seems "real" odd she couldn't tell the difference between a taser and a gun belted on their body. That seemed a little sketch, however doesn't justify HIS actions of trying to escape. Whether it be DUI, speeding ticket, grand theft auto. You don't resist arrest. Just comply and head off with them. They're not taking you to some back-street alley and executing you ISIS style. They're just taking you in to custody. If he hadn't done that, I'm sure he'd be alive and well today. Don't put yourself in this position.

I think that female officer already had her hand on her service weapon instead of her taser. But as uncomfortable as what I'm about to say is, the bottom line here is that everyone is so caught up on "the accident" of that female officer that no one is talking about that not-so-smart decision that Wright made (at 0:46) which led to his unfortunate demise. That's the part no one is talking about.

    • JD

No one is talking about it because he already paid the price for his mistakes with his life. Everyone else is talking about the person who is still alive and needs to be held accountable for what would be considered manslaughter for anyone else.
